· I have tested a popular GM coolant sensor, part #12146312 with my Uno and tested it on the bench. This sensor mounts using 3/8 pipe and has a 2-wire connector. The datasheet is here and lists the mating connector: DELPHI COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR PART NUMBER 12146312. I thought I’d share the info if anyone in the future wants to use this sensor.
· Discussion Starter · #1 · Oct 27, 2010. So, I have a 1994 Chevy Silverado 1500 2wd with a 350 cu in TBI with a bad coolent temp sensor. The old one kept reading 160, so my gas mileage sucked. For the life of me I can not find a replacement one that is an exact replacement. They keep giving me these 2 pin coolant temp sensors.
· Steps to Test a Coolant Temperature Sensor. There are 4 simple and easy steps that you need to follow. SEE MORE. Unlike Your Steering Wheel in Seconds with These Two Tricks; How to Paint Your Car Wheels Like a Pro; Step 1: Locating the Coolant Temperature Sensor…
· Defective temperature switch, coolant sensor or other sensor; Engine thermostat is stuck OPEN (engine never gets hot enough to turn on the fan) Faulty fan relay; A wiring problem (blown fuse, loose or corroded connector, shorts, opens, etc.) A bad fan motor; Defective fan control module; The Next Thing To Test Is The Coolant Switch Or Sensor. On most systems; there is a coolant temperature ...
· Reading such an extreme negative temperature usually indicates that the ECT sensor has become disconnected somehow. To make sure, go to: TEST 2. CASE 3: The coolant temperature reading was at or near 240° F -This confirms diagnostic trouble code P0117 and that there's a problem with the engine coolant temp sensor or its circuits.
· Testing the coolant temperature sensor is a very quick process. With the use of a digital volt-ohm meter you can easily tell if the sensor is faulty or not. Connect the black lead of the digital ohm meter to a solid grounding. This can be any solid piece of metal. Next, remove the wire from sensor terminal and connect the red lead to the terminal end of the coolant temperature sensor. Before ...
· If the coolant temperature sensor goes bad it can send a false signal to the computer and throw off the fuel and timing calculations. This will cause the computer to think the engine is cold, even when it is not, and as a result will use more fuel than necessary. Can you drive with a bad coolant sensor? Anyone with specific knowledge weigh in. Usually the Coolant Temp Sensor is used for the ...
Oxygen Sensor Testing. Coolant Temperature Gauge. There are two different styles of coolant temperature gauges used on 924s and 944s. The early style gauge was used on all models of 924s and on 944s up to the 1985 model year. The later gauge was installed on and newer 944s and 968s. One of the difficult things about using a 924/944/968 coolant temperature gauge is that there are no …
· TEST 1: Checking The Temperature With The Key On Engine Off OK, the first thing you have to do, after pulling the diagnostic trouble codes, is to check the coolant temperature. Before I go any further, I need to tell you that to test the ECT sensor, it's super important that you start out with a completely cold engine (at ambient temperature).
· Your vehicle’s temperature sensor is an important component of your engine’s cooling system, so if you’re having problems with your car or truck overheating, you may have a faulty sensor. Luckily, replacing a temperature sensor is as simple as plugging in a new one. However, you should test your sensor first to make sure that’s where the problem lies, and you don’t have a deeper ...
· Coolant Temperature Sensor: How do you test a coolant temperature sensor? You already know the signs and symptoms of a faulty coolant temperature sensor, so how can you really test or check it? Here’s how. Find the coolant temperature sensor. You need to find where the coolant temperature sensor is located. It can usually be found on the engine block under the hood. Open the …
· Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Testing Made Easy. Keep in mind that many (ECT) sensor problems; are more often due to wiring faults and loose or corroded connectors than failure of the sensor itself. That’s why, a visual inspection of the (ECT) sensor, will sometimes reveal a problem. (ECT) Sensor Connector. This could be severe corrosion around the terminal; a crack in the sensor ...
Engine coolant temperature sensor - Simtec (GM) type. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the correct operation of an Electronic Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor responding to a change in coolant temperature during the engine warming phase. How to perform the test. View connection guidance notes. Connect PicoScope Channel A. to the temperature sensor 5 V supply circuit. A …
Coolant temperature sensors are used by the fuel management system to detect the engine's operating temperature. Depending on the sensor information, the control unit adapts the injection time and firing angle to the operating conditions. The sensor is a temperature sensor with a negative temperature coefficient. This means that the internal resistance reduces as the temperature …
· Re: 454 Chevy temp sensor. 01/18/2016 12:50 AM. In the first design of the 366-427 engine, all coolant monitoring was done by water temperature sensors installed in the intake manifold in the short water runners between the thermostat housing, and the front of the cylinder head.
· The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor test is simple and can help you fix your car faster. You can do it at home using a digital multimeter and a cooking thermometer. A bad engine coolant temperature sensor affects engine performance: It may cause a constant lean air/fuel mixture, causing the engine to stall or idle rough. Or it may cause a constant rich air/fuel mixture, causing an ...
